CARBON FILTERS INSTALLED IN EAST PALESTINE AS PART OF LONG-TERM COMMITMENT TO PROTECT DRINKING WATER

Last Updated on January 24, 2024 at 4:29pm

Upgrades to the East Palestine municipal drinking water system are underway with the installation of the new carbon filtration system, as reported by the Morning Journal.

The new filters were funded by Norfolk Southern’s $4.3 million commitment for the long-term protection of East Palestine’s drinking water.

According to East Palestine Water Superintendent Scott Wolfe, the decision to opt for carbon filters was part of the village’s proactive strategy, emphasizing that this move was in progress even before any derailment incident. No derailment-related contamination has been detected in the water supply.

“This puts us way ahead of the curve and is a preventative measure,” Wolfe said.

The remaining funds will be used to implement upgrades to the municipal system, including new engineering, infrastructure, and state-of-the-art technology.
