Norfolk Southern CEO, Alan Shaw, visited East Palestine, Ohio to review progress and provide updates to local media.
“We have kept every promise that we’ve made. We’ve acknowledged there’s more work to be done. We’re committed to doing more,” said Alan Shaw at the village’s Moose Lodge on Monday.
Local media outlets attended a roundtable covering the progress made. Highlights of Norfolk Southern’s commitments include:
- $103 million worth of commitments to East Palestine and the surrounding areas in Ohio and Pennsylvania, which includes a $25 million for a regional safety training center, $25 million in planned improvements to East Palestine’s city park, and $9 million to local first responders;
- $2 million for community-directed projects;
- $500,000 grant for economic development;
- $4.3 million pledge to support upgrades to drinking water infrastructure;
- Completed the intensive phase of environmental remediation; and,
- Announced the next phase of long-term community support.
