NORFOLK SOUTHERN REPORTS PROGRESS IN WATERWAY RESTORATION UPDATE

Last Updated on February 2, 2024 at 10:36am

Following the successful completion of major site remediation work in the derailment zone, Norfolk Southern provided an update on the progress of ongoing work at the temporary water filtration system and impacted waterways.

“From early on in the response, we’ve been collecting all the storm water that flows into the site. We collect that, we manage it, we treat it. It either gets shipped off to a licensed facility for disposal or we treat it here and then it goes and gets shipped off,” said Chris Hunsicker, Norfolk Southern’s Regional Manager of Environmental Operations.

Norfolk Southern is working with both the U.S. and Ohio EPA to have final remediation plans approved for the restoration of both Leslie Run and Sulphur Run creeks.
